Worcestershire Seconds made a strong reply with the bat on day two of the day-night Championship match being played with a pink ball against Warwickshire Seconds at Edgbaston.
The in-form Ollie Westbury and fellow England Under-19 player Josh Dell both hit half centuries as Worcestershire claimed four batting points.
Keeper Alex Milton, skipper Alex Hepburn and Kervezee also chipped in with useful runs as Worcestershire delcared on 300-7 – just four runs behind.
Then Kervezee struck an early blow with the ball when Warwickshire batted for a second time as they reached 17-1.
Worcestershire resumed their innings which had started the night before in darkness under floodlights, on 15 without loss in bright sunshine and the heat of the early afternoon.
The first session was dominated by opener Westbury and Kervezee.
They joined forces with the score on 32 after Tom Kohler-Cadmore skied the ball to Andrew Umeed at fine leg.
Westbury and Kervezee batted for 23 overs in a 61 run partnership, with the latter being the main run scorer until he fell to a diving catch by William Porterfield at mid off, for 43.
A boundary from Westbury ended the first session of the day and brought up the 100 for Worcestershire who went into lunch on 102-2.
The floodlights were switched on at the pre-agreed time of 6 pm, despite the sunny weather.
Before this, Westbury had achieved his half-century from 127 deliveries and including five fours before he chipped the ball back to bowler Josh Poysden for a fine 63.
Two more wickets fell for 20 runs in seven overs, but keeper Alex Milton and Josh Dell defended the rest of the session to take Worcestershire to 227-5 at tea.
Eleven overs into the evening session, with daylight fading fast and the new ball just nine overs old, Milton was denied his half century when bowled by Palash Joshi for 47, having put on 95 runs with partner Dell.
He went on to claim his 50 off 101 balls including nine fours five overs later.
A declaration in the 100th over after Worcestershire had claimed their fourth batting point, left Warwickshire with a lead of just four runs and eight overs to face under lights in the darkness and with a change of ball manufacturer to Kookaburra.
After five overs of seam bowling with the new ball, a change to spin brought a welcome wicket, when Kervezee trapped Warwickshire captain Porterfield lbw for 10.
