Ollie Westbury scored nearly half of Scarborough’s first innings total on the opening day of the Western Australia Cricket Association first grade match against University.
Worcestershire batsman Westbury made 80 in his second match for Scarborough – a club for whom Ed Barnard played last winter.
He came in at number three and his efforts enabled Scarborough to total 180 all out 67 overs.
The day ended with honours just about even as University had reached 65-3 off 22 overs by the close.
The match will reach its conclusion next weekend.
Josh Dell scored 38 batting at number three in a second grade match in the same competition dominated by Midland-Guildford on the opening day against Wanneroo.
Wanneroo were bowled out for 76 in their first innings and Midland-Guildford replied with 211-6 declared with Dell striking seven fours in his 63 ball knock.
Wanneroo went in for the second time and reached 30-1 by the close.
George Rhodes’ side Onslow maintained their 100 per cent in the Ewen Chatfield Trophy with a 58 run success over Kaori CC.
It was their fourth successive win in the competition and they currently head the table by five points.
Worcestershire all-rounder Rhodes made 12 batting at number four and no-one made more than 20 until number 10 J. Sargentina contributed 23 not out and added 38 for the last wicket with D. Rose (10).
That enabled Onslow to reach 157 all out in 38.1 overs.
This quickly proved to be more than sufficient as Kaori were dismissed for 99 in 33.4 overs with Sargentina also contributing 3-42.
Rhodes had picked up two wickets the previous week but was not required with the ball on this occasion.
County paceman Charlie Morris and Tuggeranong Valley’s hopes of victory were frustrated by the weather against Western District UC in the McDonald’s ACT Premier Cricket first grade clash.
Tuggeranong posted a challenging 221-6 in 50 overs thanks to consistent contributions down the order.
Morris shared the new ball but only 2.2 overs were possible before rain caused the game to be abandoned with Western District 4-1.
