Whiteley Heading Back To County After Pakistan Super League Exit

ross whiteley will be heading back to New Road after his side, multan sultans, failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the pakistan super league.

the worcestershire all-rounder and his team-mates needed rivals peshawar zalmi to slip up in one of their final two games to go through to the last four.

but those hopes were dashed when peshawar chased down a 173 target in their final group game against lahore qalandars.

they tied up a seven wicket win off the final ball of the game.

whiteley and the sultans looked certainties to go through after collecting nine points from their opening six games from four wins and a no result.

but a sequence of four successive defeats left their destiny out of their own hands – and they were made to pay.

the sultans exit brings an end to whiteley’s winter programme of cricket around the world via the bangladesh premier league, the inaugural t10 competition in sharjah and the pakistan super league.

now he will turn all his focus onto preparing for the new county season.

he will be reunited with his worcestershire team-mates next week on their return from a training camp in abu dhabi.
