Ross Whiteley dug his side Prospect CC out of a hole but was denied a century by the rain on the second day of the drawn South Australian Cricket Association 'A' grade match with Sturt.
The Worcestershire all-rounder came to the wicket with Prospect rocking on 27-4 in reply to the 345-5 that Stuart had amassed on the opening day last weekend after being put into bat.
But Whiteley mixed aggression with application in staying at the wicket for three and a quarter hours for an unbeaten 98 off 138 balls with four sixes and eight boundaries.
He first of all shared in a fifth wicket stand of 61 with S. Miller (28) and then 80 for the sixth wicket with H. Brynes Howe (37).
There was still work to do after Howe's dismissal but Whiteley stood firm and was just two runs shy of a second century of the winter when the match was abandoned with Prospect standing on 210-7 from 64 overs.
A similar fate befell Joe Leach's side North Canberra Gungahlin in the Australian Capital Territory first grade home encounter with current leaders Weston Creek Molonglo.
The Northies elected to bat after winning the toss with Leach contributing 21 off 34 balls batting at number four out of a total of 233-9 in 50 overs.
He shared a third wicket stand of 55 with B. Winkler before being third out at 94.
But Weston Creek were unable to start their reply before the heavens opened and the game was called off.
The two sides will meet again on Thursday in a Konica Cup T20 encounter. Leach helped his side to a double triumph in that competition last weekend.
