Wicket And Time In The Middle For Whiteley In Gloucs Clash

Wicket And Time In The Middle For Whiteley In Gloucs Clash

Ross Whiteley picked up a rare wicket and made useful runs on the second day of Worcestershire's two-day friendly with Gloucestershire at RGS Worcester.

Whiteley, who did not bowl a single ball in senior cricket last summer, dismissed Tom Smith in his second over.

The former Derbyshire player then enjoyed some valuable time in the middle and batted an hour and three quarters for 34 before being dismissed shortly before the close.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore also occupied the crease for a substantial period in making 19 not out after his shoulder operation.

Gloucestershire declared their first innings at their overnight 85-4 from their stipulated 30 overs for batting on the opening day.

They then batted for a second time in reply to Worcestershire's 182-9 declared in their allotted 60 overs.

Worcestershire paceman Jack Shantry made the first breakthrough with 35 on the board as Australian Big Bash winner Cameron Bancroft was lbw for 21.

Opener Chris Dent completed a half century and faced 87 balls, hitting one six and five fours, before retiring at lunch on 51 not out.

Shantry enjoyed a second success when Dent's replacement, Benny Howell, departed for a duck – also leg before.

Then came Whiteley's breakthrough – with Smith caught behind by Ben Cox – before Gloucestershire declared at 187-3 after 59.4 of their permitted 60 overs.

Shantry finished with the excellent figures of 2-14 from 11 overs.

There was a dramatic start to Worcestershire's second innings with Daryl Mitchell and Tom Fell both bowled for nought to the first two deliveries from Ollie Currill.

Brett D'Oliveira (9) departed in the same fashion to Chris Liddle at 22-3.

Whiteley and Kohler-Cadmore then added 42 before the former's dismissal after striking four fours in his 83 ball knock and Worcestershire closed on 68-4 from 30 overs.
