WOMEN’S RAPIDS PREPARE FOR NEW SEASON WITH TRIO OF WARM-UP FIXTURES

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids will participate in a trio of friendly matches ahead of the new season.

The Rapids are stepping up their preparations for the 2019 campaign via training sessions at Prince Henry’s School, Evesham.

But they will soon be back out in the middle ahead of competing in Division Two of the ECB 50 over and T20 competitions.

The Rapids will feature in away fixtures with Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Nottinghamshire with all three games 50 over contests.

Worcestershire experienced mixed fortunes in 2018, gaining promotion back to Division Two of the 50 over competition at the first attempt but being relegation from Division One of the T20 competition after one season.

The friendlies will give players the opportunity to stake a claim to be part of the squad for next summer.

Gareth Davies, who is in his first season as a Rapids Head Coach after two years as Assistant Coach, said: “We want to play the pre-season games and give everyone the opportunity to get into the side.

“The squad will be based on a combination of performances on the pitch, attitude, and how they applied themselves over the winter.”

Former Worcestershire paceman Steve Magoffin is acting as Assistant Coach of the Rapids in addition to being lead coach and manager of the Worcestershire Women’s Rapids pathway programme.
