Worcestershire Royals were beaten by 8 wickets against the Warwickshire Bears in the Friends Life t20 at New Road.
The Royals won the toss and batted first and had got to 30 in the 5th over when Moeen Ali was run out by Varun Chopra at mid-wicket for 13. The Bears bowled tightly as, after 10 overs, the Royals had got to 58-1 and then in the next over Vikram Solanki, going for a big hit, was caught by Keith Barker at long-on off Stefan Piolet for 32. Phil Hughes was the third wicket to fall when he was trapped lbw off Jeetan Patel for 11, with the score on 65, and 4 runs later Gareth Andrew was caught by Patel at long-on off Piolet for 6.
James Cameron and Daryl Mitchell added 21 runs for the fifth wicket until Cameron was caught by Chris Wright at long-on off Darren Maddy for 6 and when Mitchell was lbw to Barker for 25 the Royals had reached 102-6 in the 18th over. Alexei Kervezee, going for a pull, top-edged and was caught by Neil Carter for 8, with the score on 112-7 and the Royals eventually ended up on 120-7 off their 20 overs, with Brett D'Oliveira unbeaten on 6 and Ben Scott unbeaten on 5.
The Bears began brightly as Rikki Clarke and Varun Chopra took the score to 25 in the 3rd over before Clarke was caught at deep mid-on by Andrew off Jack Shantry (1-25) for 12. Jim Troughton was bowled when, attemping an off drive, he got an inside edge onto the stumps off Andrew (1-23) for 12, with the score on 40, but Chopra and Darren Maddy steadily took the Bears along to their target of 121 and their unbeaten third wicket partnership of 83 took the visitors to a comfortable victory as they ended up on 123-2 off 16.3 overs, with Chopra unbeaten on 49, off 48 balls, with 5 fours and Maddy unbeaten on 39, off 33 balls, with 2 fours and 2 sixes.
