WORCESTERSHIRE SECONDS GAME AT NORTHAMPTON IS ABANDONED

WORCESTERSHIRE SECONDS GAME AT NORTHAMPTON IS ABANDONED

worcestershire seconds championship match with northamptonshire was abandoned without a ball being bowled on the final day at the county ground, northampton.

the umpires called off play early today after more heavy overnight rain ruled out any hopes of a resumption.

only 22 overs were possible in the entire game – on the second day when northamptonshire scored 92-3 after being put into bat.

the seconds have been deprived of cricket during the past month since playing derbyshire in the second eleven trophy on may 20.

the four-day fixture with gloucestershire at clifton college was abandoned mid-way through the first day because of concerns over the wicket.

two t20 matches with warwickshire at stourport last thursday did go ahead.

but then rain intervened to wash out the final trophy match with northamptonshire at finedon cc on monday and this was followed by the rain-wrecked championship match.

the seconds are due to next be in action from june 26-28 against derbyshire in the championship at New Road.
