Worcestershire Sign Paceman Andy Carter On Six Week Contract

worcestershire have furthered strengthened their attack by announcing a second signing in the space of 48 hours in experienced paceman andy carter.

the 29-year-old has joined the county for a six week period in which he is available for all cricket including the vitality blast and specsavers county championship.

head coach kevin sharp confirmed the signing of carter who has impressed in recent weeks during a trial period with the seconds.

carter announced his retirement from first class cricket at the end of the 2016 season after a spell with hampshire and had previously played for nottinghamshire and derbyshire.

but he returned to play for northamptonshire when they visited worcestershire in the championship at the start of last season and impressed with a three wicket burst with the new ball.

he has also shown his quality during this spell at New Road and is included in the squad for this evening’s opening vitality blast match with lancashire lightning at emirates old trafford.

the signing of carter follows the loan capture of nottinghamshire left armer luke wood for a month long period which was announced on tuesday.

carter, who played for lincolnshire during the early part of this season, has an impressive record in all formats either side of several injury setbacks.

he picked up 108 wickets in 36 first class matches at 29.62, 31 list a wickets from 23 games at 25.77 and 36 t20 wickets from 32 games at 24.05.

kevin sharp said: “i can confirm that andy has signed a six week contract until the end of the t20 (blast) and is available for all cricket in those six weeks.

“he has impressed in the seconds and he is keen to continue his career. in light of the fact we wanted to strengthen the squad, andy is joining us.

“he has got plenty of experience to call upon and he will be with us at old trafford.”
