DAY 1

On a truncated first day at New Road, when only 42 overs were bowled, Durham were 127-4 in their first innings.

Worcestershire won the toss and put the visitors into bat and Alan Richardson took the first wicket for the home side when he got Will Smith (11) to edge to Moeen Ali at third slip, with the score on 26 in the 9th over, just after the players had gone off for rain for 25 minutes.

Mark Stoneman and Gordon Muchall survived the rest of the morning session as they took the visitors to 72-1 off 24 overs but in the 28th over their second wicket partnership of 63 was broken when Stoneman (38) top-edged a pull off Richardson and was caught by Vikram Solanki, who ran back from the slip cordon towards the boundary.

Then on 94 Muchall, who was earlier dropped by Ben Scott, was caught by Daryl Mitchell at second slip off Jack Shantry for 25 and Shantry went on to take his second wicket of the innings when he bowled Ben Stokes for 22, with the score on 125-4 after 40 overs.

The rain arrived shortly afterwards, with Durham on 126-4 off 41.1 overs, and although they briefly resumed, for 5 balls, the players ran back to the pavilion, as the heavens opened once again, and frustratingly, despite the best efforts of the groundstaff, further showers meant that play was abandoned for the day at 5:45pm.

DAY 2

Worcestershire ended the second day of their LV= County Championship match against Durham at New Road on 100-2 in their first innings after dismissing the visitors for 243.

The continuing wet weather delayed proceedings for the day until 2pm and when play got underway the visitors lost Mike Richardson, in the second over of the day, when he edged a Gareth Andrew delivery to Daryl Mitchell at second slip for 0, with the score on 127-5.  Andrew then bowled both Dale Benkenstein (30) and Scott Borthwick (10) to leave the visitors on 166-7 and when Phil Mustard (32) was caught by Phil Hughes at deep square-leg off Richard Jones the score had reached 193-8.

Callum Thorp and Graham Onions (25*) struck 8 fours in their ninth wicket partnership of 42 until Thorp (30) edged to Moeen Ali at third slip off Alan Richardson and then Richardson took the final wicket of the innings by getting Chris Rushworth (0) to top edge an attempted pull, which was caught by Vikram Solanki running back from the slip cordon, and Durham were all out for 243, with Richardson taking 4-52 off 24.5 overs, Andrew 3-73 off 20 overs, Jack Shantry 2-52 off 17 overs and Jones 1-43 off 8 overs.

Tea was taken between innings and when Worcestershire began their first innings both Mitchell and Hughes were untroubled by the new ball attack of Onions and Rushworth.  Whereas Mitchell was more dogged Hughes punished any short deliveries through backward point as their opening partnership went to 63 after 23 overs but then the first wicket fell, in the 24th over, when Mitchell edged behind to Mustard off Ben Stokes for 24.  Stokes struck again in his next over as he trapped Solanki lbw for 13, with the score on 77, but then Hughes and Ali survived the remaining overs and, although the players went off briefly for rain, Hughes reached his 50 just before stumps off 91 balls, with 9 fours, as Worcestershire ended the second day on 100-2.

DAY 3

On another rain affected day at New Road Worcestershire were bowled out for 205 in their first innings and Durham, in their second innings, had reached 67-0 at stumps, leading by 105 runs.

In glorious sunshine the County resumed on 100-2 and Phil Hughes and Moeen Ali moved the score along to 145 when Hughes was lbw to Scott Borthwick for 87 off 136 balls, with 17 fours, to end a third wicket partnership of 68.  Borthwick then took the wickets of Ali (18) and Matt Pardoe (2), who were both caught by Mike Richardson at deep mid-wicket, and when James Cameron was caught and bowled by Borthwick for 24 Worcestershire had collapsed to 177-6.  1 run later Ben Scott (0) edged behind to Phil Mustard off Callum Thorp and at lunch Worcestershire were 183-7.

After lunch Gareth Andrew (6) mistimed a pull and was caught by Thorp at mid-on off Chris Rushworth, with the score on 187, Richard Jones, who earlier had to retire as an insect had got into his left eye, was caught behind by Mustard off Rushworth for 4 and the same combination dismissed Jack Shantry for 17, to leave Alan Richardson not out on 4, as Worcestershire were all out for 205 off 75.1 overs, having lost their last 8 wickets for 60 runs.

With a 38 run advantage Durham's opening pair of Will Smith and Mark Stoneman survived the first 20 overs, as the clouds got darker, and when the rain arrived at 3:45pm the visitors had reached 67-0.  Tea was then taken but the rain continued to fall after tea and the umpires, Martin Saggers and Steve O'Shaughnessy, abandoned the day's play at 5:15pm.

DAY 4

The fourth and final day was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain and therefore the match has ended as a draw.  Worcestershire take 7 points from this match.
