Worcs All-Rounder’s Side In Ascendancy Down Under

Worcs All-Rounder’s Side In Ascendancy Down Under

George Rhodes' side, North Canberra Gungahlin, are in a strong position after the opening day of their ACT Premier Cricket first grade encounter away to Ginninderra.

The Worcestershire CCC all-rounder has been in prime form for his club Down Under this winter but on this occasion it was the turn of other players to play leading roles to ensure the Northies assumed control.

Rhodes is his side's leading wicket-taker but bowled only one over for four runs as Ginninderra were bowled out for 137 in 72.1 overs.

Matthew Boak did most of the damage for North Canberra with 5-44 from 21.2 overs.

Rhodes opened the batting for the Northies, fresh from his splendid century in the drawn match against ANU the previous weekend.

He ensured North Canberra got off to a sound start, helping Brock Winkler to put on 67 for the first wicket.

Rhodes, his side's top run-scorer this winter, made 19 before he was dismissed.

But Winkler and Jason Kila scored at a rapid rate during a second wicket partnership of 124.

Kila fell shortly before the close for 64 but Winkler resume on 99 not out with North Canberra having reached 191-3 from just 25.2 overs.

The match will reach its conclusion on January 23.
