Worcs Ccc Academy Trio Impress In Super Fours At Loughborough

Three members of Worcestershire CCC's 2014-2015 Academy intake – Josh Tongue, Ben Twohig and Josh Dell – made telling contributions when playing for the Midlands Under-17s against the North Under-17s in a 'Super Fours' match at the National Performance Centre, Loughborough.

Tongue and Midlands captain Twohig, who have just signed their first professional contracts with the County, played signficant roles with the ball in ensuring the North were dismissed for 195.

Tongue took the new ball, removed opener Ben Ainsley in his fifth over and, when returning to the attack, dismissed James Logan and finished with excellent figures of 2-23 from his 10 overs.

Spinner Twohig was equally as frugal in his 10 overs after bringing himself on as the sixth bowler and finished with 1-24.

Dell then came into his own by making a splendid 70 not out in enabling North to overcome a wobbly start and win by seven wickets.

He came to the wicket at 14-2 and struck eight boundaries in his 90 ball knock and shared in a third wicket stand of 137 with Liam Banks.

Twohig had been amongst the wickets in the abandoned match with the South West Under-17s as part of the annual Under-17s tournament.

The Malvern College pupil finished with 3-60 from his 10 overs as the South West made 316-9 in their 50 overs.

The Midlands replied with 51-2 from 10.5 overs and Dell (five not out) had just come to the crease when the heavens opened.

Round Three of the tournament will see the Midlands take on London and The East tomorrow.
