Worcs Cricket Society Launch Winter Programme In 1865 Lounge

Worcestershire Cricket Society launch their winter programme for 2016-2017 tomorrow evening in the 1865 Lounge and the guest speaker will be former Derbyshire batsman Tony Borrington (7.30pm start).

Tony, now aged 67, scored 4,230 first class runs at an average of 23.63 with three hundreds and 22 fifties plus 2,866 List A runs at 21.22 with one hundred and 17 fifties.

He made his first class debut for Derbyshire in 1971, won his county cap in 1977, and played for the County until 1981.

Tony then taught at Grace Dieu Manor prep school in Leicestershire at geography before becoming deputy headmaster.

His son Paul followed in his footsteps and joined Derbyshire in 2006 and played his last game for the Peakites in 2014.

The Society cricket evenings are always held on the second Tuesday of each month from October to March (7.30) and the other guest speakers this winter are:

November 2016 – cricket book author Stephen Chalke

December 2016 – The Pyemont Brothers presentation of the history of The Ashes

January 2017 – a Worcestershire CCC player TBC

February 2017 – former Warwickshire cricketer and ex Northants CCC CEO David Smith

March 2017 – national journalist and cricket book author Brian Scovell

A reminder that Cricket Society membership subscriptions remain the same price as 2015 with a single membership costing £15 and a double membership £20.

But non members can also attend the cricket evenings for a cost of £3 per meeting.
