Worcs Equal Best Start In Championship For 29 Years

Worcestershire have equalled their best start to a County Championship campaign for 29 years.

The County last won the opening two matches in the 1988 season in which they went onto lift the title.

Skipper Phil Neale's side defeated Lancashire at Old Trafford by 10 wickets with spinner Richard Illingworth picking up 10 wickets.

They then overcame Nottinghamshire at New Road by six wickets with Graham Dilley collecting a nine wicket haul.

Worcestershire went onto complete a hat-trick of wins as they thrashed Somerset by an innings and 214 runs at Taunton.

It was the match in which Graeme Hick scored his 405 not out but there were also 10 wickets for Phil Newport.

Current Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes played in all three of those matches.

The current team are one of three to so far enjoy 100 per cent records and are lying in fourth position.

Nottinghamshire and Kent have registered a trio of victories and have played a game more than Worcestershire.
