Worcs Players Feature In Stourbridge Ccc 175Th Anniversary Publication

Worcestershire CCC cricketers figure prominently in a new book to commemorate the 175th anniversary of Stourbridge Cricket Club.

The book, which will be published by the Stourbridge and District Cricket Society, features 19 players who played for the club and went onto win Test honours.

They include 12 Worcestershire CCC players plus another seven who appeared for other first-class counties.

The County has always had a strong link with Stourbridge CCC which hosted first class cricket for many years and has recently returned to staging Second Eleven and Academy fixtures.

Lord Cobham has kindly written a splendid foreword to the book. The Lyttelton family has enjoyed a long association with Worcestershire CCC dating back to its formation in 1865.

In addition the book also adds five other players who came close to Test selection. One served as a Test umpire, one was a Test selector, two played representative or wartime matches for their country, and the fifth played for W.G. Grace’s XI.

The book is nearing the proof-reading stage and it is planned that copies of the book will be published in April.

The book – for which the first edition will be restricted to just 250 copies – is now available to purchase at a subscriber offer pre-publication price of £7.50 – plus £2 p and p – instead of £9 plus £2 p and p.

The names of all subscribers will be included in the book, providing their orders and cheques are received on or before 17 February 2017.
