Xavie Clarke Handed Seconds Debut In T20 Double Header

Xavie Clarke will make his debut for Worcestershire Seconds in the T20 double header with Warwickshire Seconds at Edgbaston tomorrow.

Clarke is following in the footsteps of elder brother Joe who graduated to the senior side three years ago after impressing in the Seconds.

Xavie earned his call-up after scoring a century for Worcestershire Under-17s in the ECB County Championship match with Hampshire at Stourbridge last week.

He has been part of the County’s Academy full intake for 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 after initially being a member of the satellite academy in Shropshire under the guidance of ex County paceman Paul Pridgeon.

Clarke was also chosen for the Bunburys side which won the 2016 T20 competition.

The Seconds are giving another opportunity to Brinder Phagura who made a successful debut in the Championship match with Leicestershire at Rugby School.

Phagura, who has been playing for Staffordshire this summer, returned 4-52 in the first innings of the drawn encounter.

Andy Carter, who has signed a six week contract with the County, is named in the side.

The Seconds focus is fully on T20 this week and on Wednesday they take on MCC Young Cricketers in a double header at Wolverhampton CC.
