Worcestershire slumped to a comprehensive seven wicket defeat against Sussex Sharks in their final Yorkshire Bank 40 match of the season at New Road.
Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat first but soon lost Daryl Mitchell in the 5th over when he edged to Michael Yardy in the slips off Lewis Hatchett for 6, with the score on 23.
Moeen Ali continued his good form for Worcestershire by striking 7 fours and 1 six before he got to his 50 off just 37 balls as, along with Alexei Kervezee, they put on 71 for the second wicket until Kervezee chipped the ball straight back to Chris Nash for 26.
Three balls later Ali was run out for 51 off 40 balls by a direct hit from Chris Liddle at mid-off and then Liddle took the catch at long-off from Will Beer to dismiss Tom Fell for 13, with the home side on 121-4 in the 20th over.
Tilan Samaraweera and Ross Whiteley then tried to rebuild the innings by making 63 for the fifth wicket until Whiteley was undone by a yorker from Liddle for 34 and then Samaraweera reached his 50 off 56 balls before Ben Cox was trapped lbw off Yardy for 6 to leave Worcestershire on 206-6 in the 36th over.
Samaraweera and Brett D’Oliveira (12*) then added 37 runs as the home side ended up on 243-6 off their 40 overs, with the Sri Lankan unbeaten on a run-a-ball 72, with 7 fours.
In reply the Sharks lost Ed Joyce in the 3rd over when he was bowled by Jack Shantry for 12 but then Luke Wright and Matt Machan tore through the Worcestershire bowling attack as they took the score to 92-1 after 10 overs.
Machan reached his 50, with a pulled four off Graeme Cessford, from just 33 balls and Wright went to his 50, with a pulled six off Ali, off just 37 balls as their partnership went past 100 and then Wright took a further 28 balls to get to his 100 off 65 balls.
Wright was finally out for an excellent 112 off just 69 balls, with 14 fours and 2 sixes, when he was caught at long on by Whiteley off Ali to end a second wicket partnership of 184.
6 runs later Machan was bowled by Ali for 79 off 57 balls, with 12 fours and 1 six, and then Nash (12*) and Yardy (25*) sealed the win for the visitors with 11.4 overs to spare.
