BROWN PICKS UP FIRST ENGLAND WICKET AND HAS THREE CATCHES PUT DOWN

Pat Brown picked up his first wicket wearing England’s colours but also had three catches dropped off his bowling in a six wicket warm-up win over a New Zealand X1 at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.

The Worcestershire paceman bowled his four overs in three different spells and ended with 1-39.

Brown was rewarded for his efforts when he dismissed for Christian Leopard (5) with his final delivery – caught in the deep by Tom Banton.

But his figures suffered at the hands of three of the four catches put down by England.

Brown bowled the fourth and sixth overs, returned to bowl the 14th, which cost just four runs, and then the 18th.

The New Zealand X1 totalled 172-4 thanks to Anton Devcich (62) and Anaru Kitchen with an unbeaten 50.

England lost three wickets for 51 in reply – all of them to Lockie Ferguson on his return from injury.

But opener Jonny Bairstow saw them to victory with an unbeaten 78 off 45 balls with four sixes and six fours.

He added 61 for the fourth wicket with Sam Billings and an unbroken 67 with Sam Curran (28 not out) as England reached 178-4 with 11 balls to spare.

The two teams will play another warm-up match at the same venue on Tuesday.
