Bumpy Says Saeed Will Be “trying To Prove A Point” In Uxbridge Clash

Steve Rhodes says Worcestershire spinner Saeed Ajmal will be "trying to prove a point" when he returns to LV = County Championship action against Middlesex at Uxbridge starting on Sunday.

The Pakistan star made his comeback to first class cricket after a 10 month absence in the home Championship derby with Warwickshire at New Road.

Ajmal bowled 17 overs in Warwickshire's only innings and conceded 82 runs.

But Rhodes, who has stayed supportive of Ajmal while he has remodelled his action, is confident the 37-year-old will improve on his performance.

Worcestershire's Director of Cricket said: "Saeed would have liked to have done better. He's a match-winner and he knows that his job is to take wickets.

"He would have loved to have done a lot better but it is his first game back for quite a while – of Championship cricket anyway.

"He will improve on that, I'm very confident and he will be going into that Middlesex game on Sunday trying to prove a point."

Ajmal's previous first class appearance was the first Test of the series against Sri Lanka in Galle last August.
