Worcestershire paceman Charlie Morris reached 50 first class wickets for the season after an impressive performance on the opening day of the LV = County Championship clash with Derbyshire at Derby.
Morris reached the landmark when he bowled Wayne White to pick up his fourth wicket of the innings.
He has claimed 46 Championship wickets for Worcestershire in 2014 in addition to four for Oxford University against Nottinghamshire in April when he twice dismissed England one-day player Samit Patel.
Morris was the pick of the Worcestershire bowlers and maintained his pace all day as he finished with 4-43 from 24 overs as Derbyshire ended on 323-8 from 96 overs after electing to bat.
It is currently his career best figures, surpassing the 4-76 against Leicestershire at Grace Road, and Morris will be looking to complete his first five wicket haul tomorrow morning.
But there was also a marathon stint of accurate bowling from Jack Shantry who sent down 32 overs in the day and finished with 2-66 – an economy rate of just 2.06 runs per over.
He could also have ended with more wickets as a just reward for his efforts.
Worcestershire kept faith with the side which suffered their first Championship defeat of the campaign against Gloucestershire at New Road a fortnight ago.
Derbyshire chose to bat after winning the toss and initially were kept in check by the visitors attack.
Morris conceded just nine runs in his frugal opening eight over spell and Godleman scored only three runs off 48 deliveries in the first hour which yielded 29 runs from 16 overs.
It was Joe Leach who made the first breakthrough with a back of the length delivery which rose on Ben Slater (29) and was edged to skipper Daryl Mitchell at second slip with 41 on the board.
Godleman was joined by Wayne Madsen and the scoring rate gradually increased as the 100 came up in the first over after lunch – the 33rd.
Madsen survived a difficult chance on 29 off Mitchell McClenaghan which Tom Fell at gulley failed to hold onto.
He reached his half century off 72 balls with nine fours and the century partnership with Godleman came up in only 22 overs.
The impressive Morris ended the stand after it had realised 112 when Madsen (56) edged to Tom Kohler-Cadmore at first slip.
It was the same combination who struck again to account for Godleman after he had made a patient 55 in three and a half hours out of 164-3 in the 54th over.
The runs dried up and Leach enjoyed his second success of the day when Chesney Hughes (13) shouldered arms and was bowled.
It was Leach's 50th first class wicket of his career.
Wes Durston (32) provided Jack Shantry with his first wicket after he edged through to Mitchell at second slip.
Morris returned to have keeper Gareth Cross (4) pouched by Fell at third slip.
The new ball was taken at 252-6 and Wayne Wright, on loan to his former county from Lancashire, was twice dropped off Morris in the slips.
Morris was not to be denied his 50th wicket and it arrived when when he bowled Wright (6).
Shantry collected a deserved second wicket when David Wainwright (9) was caught by Alexei Kervezee off a delivery which stopped on him.
