County Seconds Fall Just Short In Brave Last Day Victory Bid

County Seconds Fall Just Short In Brave Last Day Victory Bid

Worcestershire Seconds made a brave attempt to chase down a 381 target on the final day of the Second Eleven Championship match with their Leicestershire counterparts before going down by 62 runs at Kidderminster.

The home side were given a flying start by Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Brett D'Oliveira during a stand of 137 in 36 overs and at one stage stood on 218-3.

But left arm spinner Jamie Sykes (5-49 in 12.4 overs) worked his way through the middle and lower order as Worcestershire were finally dismissed for 318 during the final hour.

Worcestershire collected six points and Leicestershire 24 points.

Leicestershire resumed on 214-1 and lost five wickets in adding 64 quickfire runs before the declaration at 278-6 with George Rhodes and skipper Shaaiq Choudhry finishing with two wickets apiece plus two run outs.

Kohler-Cadmore and D'Oliveira made a positive start before the former was caught behind for 71 made off 110 balls with one six and 10 fours.

D'Oliveira followed two runs later – caught at point – for 60 from 105 deliveries with eight boundaries.

Joe Clarke and Alexei Kervezee gave Worcestershire renewed hope during a fourth wicket stand of 62.

Clarke scored 44 off 46 balls with seven fours before being stumped off Sykes and after his dismissal Worcestershire's hopes were pinned mainly on Kervezee.

The Dutch international achieved his third 50 plus score in four Championship innings since losing his first team spot.

He made 67 from 74 balls with two sixes and three fours but Worcestershire's hopes effectively ended when he was eighth out, lofting Sykes into the hands of long on.
