COUNTY SIGNING RUTHERFORD RETURNING TO T20 ACTION

worcestershire ccc 2020 overseas signing, hamish rutherford, is set to return to t20 action for the first time since vitality blast finals day in september this weekend.

rutherford will be hoping to help otago volts to the same sort of glory in new zealand’s super smash competition as enjoyed by the rapids in recent years.

county keeper-batsman, ben cox, was a team-mate of rutherford’s in last winter’s competition.

the volts missed out by one spot on the knockout stages in a competition won by central districts.

rutherford, who is returning to New Road for the entire campaign next summer, was the volts top scorer in the 2018-2019 super smash.

he finished with 227 runs at an average of 28.37 and a strike rate of 132.74 while cox came second in the batting averages with 151 runs at 30.20.

rutherford played in both the semi-final and final of the vitality blast in which the rapids came so close to retaining their title before being pipped by essex.

otago will launch their campaign on december 14 against auckland aces at eden park and will follow that with another away encounter versus northern knights two days later.

their opening home fixture will be the return meeting with the aces on december 19 at the university of otago oval, dunedin.
