COUNTY XI IN THREE-DAY ACTION AT EDGBASTON

A Worcestershire CCC XI, comprising a mixture of professionals and Academy players, will take on their Warwickshire counterparts in a three-day encounter starting at Edgbaston tomorrow (Wednesday).

It will be the first County action for many of the players since COVID-19 led to the campaign being curtailed.

Dillon Pennington, part of the squad for the current Bob Willis Trophy match with Gloucestershire at Bristol, will be given the opportunity to get some overs under his belt.

Fellow paceman Mitchell Stanley is returning to action after a winter back injury and will bowl a limited number of overs.

Opening batsman Josh Dell, who appeared in six County Championship matches last summer, will skipper the side.

Alex Milton will keep wicket with another keeper, Academy player Henry Cullen, playing purely as a batsman.

Worcestershire Second Eleven Coach Kadeer Ali said: “It will be a great experience for the younger lads and an opportunity for the boys currently not part of the first team to play some competitive cricket.

“Dillon will also have the opportunity to bowl some overs to keep him ticking over.”

Play will get underway each day in the red ball fixture at 11am.
