COX HITS HALF CENTURY AND TWOHIG PICKS UP WICKET

Ben Cox hit an unbeaten half century and Ben Twohig picked up one wicket and two catches for Southern Districts who fought back on the opening day of the South Australia Cricket Association first grade encounter with Adelaide.

Southern Districts opted to bat and were bowled out for 52 in just 18.5 overs in their first innings.

Opening bowler Cameron Valente dismissed both Cox (7) lbw and Twohig (0) caught behind in finishing with figures of 9.5-2-24-7.

Adelaide were then bowled out for 209 in 39.3 overs with Twohig picking up the wicket of Suraj Rajesh (24) and taking two sharp catches when fielding in the slip cordon.

The spinner settled into a good rhythm after a couple of early ring-rusty overs and ended with figures of 12.3-0-47-1.

Southern Districts ran into early trouble when they launched their second innings 157 runs in arrears and were reduced to 14-2.

But then Cox, batting at number four, and Brendan McCormack (49 not out) steadied the ship with an unbroken stand of 105.

Cox ended the day unbeaten on 51 from 88 balls and the wicket-keeper-batsman struck seven boundaries.

Southern Districts closed the day on 119-2 from 33 overs.

*Josh Dell spent the day in the field for Mosman CC whose opponents , Northern District, secured first innings points in reaching 304-4 in reply to 256 all out in a New South Wales Premier Cricket first grade match.
