Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell insists "being called up by England is not something I'm thinking about" after his superb start to the season.
Mitchell was the leading run scorer in the country with 532 at an average of 133 ahead of nearest challenger Chris Rogers (Middlesex) after the opening four LV = County Championship games of the season.
The 30-year-old has scored three centuries and the county's Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes believes Mitchell deserves at least to be mentioned when the selectors meet to pick the side.
Mitchell said: "Personally it feels nice to be the leading run-scorer in the country and things have gone my way so far this season and I will just keep working hard.
"Hopefully I can keep it going and I will just try to get as many runs as I can.
"Every innings is an opportunity to try and get a hundred and thats what I'll be doing in our next Championship game against Essex.
"But being called up for England is not something I'm thinking about to be honest. There are a few people who have mentioned it but it is out of my hands.
"Any county cricketer's dream will be to represent their country but it's all about getting as many runs as you can and then letting the selectors make up their minds."
Mitchell scored 172 not out against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl and then 109 and 151 not out against Glamorgan at the Swalec Stadium.
But he also made important contributions to the home wins over Kent and Derbyshire and his opening partnership of 72 with Matt Pardoe laid the foundations for the innings success against Derbyshire.
