joe leach is looking for worcestershire to end their specsavers county championship programme on a high – and then “hit the ground running” in red ball cricket when the 2020 campaign gets underway.
the county produced what club captain leach described as “the complete performance” to overcome glamorgan by 155 runs at New Road.
their championship season has been challenging in comparison to the rapids continued success in the vitality blast – with finals day approaching in one week’s time – and in the royal london one-day cup.
club captain leach said: “it’s really exciting. what a time to play for the club, also support the club. we’ve got a big game against gloucestershire, the neighbours down the road.
“we’ve got a promotion party to spoil there and then off to edgbaston to retain the trophy.
“looking forward to finals day and, although it is a change of format, it would be nice to go into it having had back to back wins in the championship.
“the red ball cricket has been the one cloud hanging over the season. we’ve obviously struggled and we’ve not been good enough. we will hold our hands up to that.
“but hopefully these last three games, starting with the glamorgan game where we put in a complete performance, we can right a few wrongs and set ourselves up for the start of next season.
“these things tend to work with momentum. hopefully we can kick start our four day cricket and hit the ground running for the back end of this season and then going into april as well.”
