Abu Dhabi Tour: Game 2 Vs Netherlands

Abu Dhabi Tour: Game 2 Vs Netherlands

In the second T20 match of their Abu Dhabi tour, Worcestershire CCC won the toss and chose to bat in hot and sunny conditions. In order to give all members of the squad a run out in the first two games, there were six changes to the team that defeated Ireland.

Cessford, Russell, Harrison, Leach, Hepburn and Pardoe were brought in to replace Kohler-Cadmore, Whiteley, Fell, Andrew, Morris and Shantry.

Mitchell and Cox opened the batting and reached 28 before Cox was caught at mid-off trying to hit over the top for seven. Yesterday's top scorer, Kervezee, joined Mitchell and took the score onto 58 before being bowled by Borren for 8.

Mitchell was subsequently partnered by Pardoe, who was given LBW to Rippon for 0, and then Leach. The new pairing was able to add a further 42 to the score, before the youngster was adjudged LBW to Gruijters for 18.

Mitchell was eventually out in the 18th over for an excellent 69 from 56 balls, which left the score at 109 with 2 overs remaining. A further 18 runs allowed Worcestershire to reach a total of 127-8, the same score set by Ireland for Worcestershire to chase in yesterday's game.

Choudhry again opened the bowling and in an eventful first over removed opener Cooper for 11, while conceding 14 runs. Russell, playing his first game of the tour, removed the dangerous Myburgh with his second ball for two, reducing Netherlands to 14-2.

Barresi and Van Beek then added 48 quick fire runs before Choudhry returned to take the wicket of Van Beek. The Dutchman managed 21, but was caught by Hepburn running in from deep mid-on.

Barresi and new partner Borren took the total on to 105 before Borren was caught at short third man off a well-disguised slower ball from Hepburn for 13 from 18 balls.

Some strong hitting from wicket keeper Barresi saw Netherlands reach the Worcestershire total with 26 balls to spare, with Barresi finishing on 65 not out from just 45 balls.

Tomorrow, Worcestershire CCC takes on Derbyshire in a 50 over match before back-to-back T20 matches against Derbyshire and New Zealand respectively on Tuesday.
