ACADEMY BEATEN BY WALSALL IN TROPHY QUARTER-FINAL

Worcestershire CCC Academy went down by nine wickets in a Birmingham Premier League Graham Williamson Trophy quarter-final encounter.

The Academy, who had defeated Shrewsbury in the previous round, elected to bat and at one stage reached 103-2 before being bowled out for 155 in 38.3 overs.

Alex Hinkley top-scored with 49 off 74 balls with five boundaries.

He put on 56 for the second wicket with Zain Ul-Hassan (25) and the 100 came up in 27.1 overs.

Ollie Walker chipped in with 19 off 42 balls with Billy Cox (3-11) and Jordan Bulpitt (4-34) the main wicket-takers.

Walsall reached their target in 34.5 overs with Freddie Fallows claiming the Academy’s sole success with the ball.

He dismissed Danny Cox for 25 with the total on 62 before Shoaib Akhtar (79 not out) and Billy Cox (34 not out) added an unbroken 90.

The Academy bowling figures were: Ul-Hassan (8-1-30-0), Ed Bragg (5-0-27-0), Reeve Evitts (4-0-12-0), Harry Cooke (5-0-22-0), Lewis Evans (5-0-25-0), Fallows (5-0-25-1) and Walker (1-0-10-0).
