Academy Launch Tri-Series Programme With T20 Double Header

Academy Launch Tri-Series Programme With T20 Double Header

Worcestershire Academy launch this summer's Tri-Series against Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Academys with a T20 tournament at Market Harborough tomorrow (Sunday).

The series will added a competitive element to Academy fixtures and be run along similar lines to the England Women-Australia Ashes series of recent years with points available for T20, 50 over and three-day games.

Six points will be awarded for winning a three-day game – with three for a draw – three for triumphing in a 50 over game and two for coming out on top in a T20 encounter.

It is a series that has already attracting growing interest from other counties regarding next season.

Worcestershire Academy coach Elliot Wilson said: "We've got one T20 day, we then play each other in a one-day game so this year we are going to play Leicestershire at home and Leicestershire away. Next year those two fixtures will be reversed.

"In the three day stuff, we've got Northamptonshire at home and Leicestershire away and the points will be totalled up and we will have a winner.

"We have already had interest from three other counties to join the tournament next year which is great because we all want to be playing cricket with something on it."
