Academy Taste Defeat In Tri-Series T20 Double Header

Worcestershire CCC Academy were beaten by Leicestershire and Northamptonshire in T20 matches at Barnt Green as part of the Tri-Series between the three counties this summer.

In Game One, number seven batsman Zahid Kaflet led a recovery for Worcestershire after they had elected to bat.

He came to the wicket at 35-5 in the ninth over and hit an unbeaten 59 from just 36 balls with two sixes and six fours.

Kaflet shared in stands of 36 with Academy captain Riecko Parker-Cole (27) and 43 with Ryan Wheldon (11) to lift the final total to 133-9.

Leicestershire were made to work hard to reach their target in reply after Pete Clark had struck two early blows with the ball.

The visitors were 47-3 and then 100-5 after Josh Baker picked up wickets in successive overs but they suffered no more setbacks in reaching 134-5 in 17 overs.

In Game Two, Northamptonshire scored 175-9 in their 20 overs after opting to bat first.

Knocks by C. Home – 52 off 22 balls – and G. Miller – 50 off 23 deliveries – were the mainstay of the Northants innings.

But, after reaching 149-4 in the 15th over, a burst of wickets by Josh Baker meant they scored only 26 from the final five overs.

Baker finished with the excellent figures of 3-17 from his four overs with Liam Doran (3-40) also amongst the wickets.

When Worcestershire batted opener Jujhar Johal scored 47 off 40 balls with one six and six fours.

He added 52 for the third wicket in six overs with Parker-Cole (18) but the loss of three wickets with the total on 84 and three run outs meant the Academy cwere bowled out for 135 in 19.5 overs.
