Worcestershire Academy will return to ECB County Championship action tomorrow at the start of a three-day match with Devon at Stourport CC (11am start).

Coach Elliot Wilson's side had the better of a drawn opening game with Gloucestershire Academy at King's School, Gloucester.

Worcestershire picked up seven bonus points plus the points for a share of the spoils after Gloucestershire fell 70 short of their 261 target with only three wickets remaining.

Wilson was pleased with the performance in that fixture.

He said: "We had a good three days, a good venue to play at, the surface was sound and there was a bit there for a good game of cricket really.

"We all chipped in as the three days have gone on. We werenot at our best but managed to keep ourselves ahead of the game for three days.

"The nature of the side we played, everyone had the need to chip in. In the first innings, a number of guys got scores from 20s to 40s and we got ourselves to 300 in the first innings which is a key thing in trying to win games of cricket in that three-day cricket.

"We managed to keep our noses ahead for the majority of the three days but unfortunately came up three wickets short when trying to bowl them out.

"We left them 61 overs to get 263. We batted for four overs after lunch and then had two sessions to try and bowl them out and we did alright.

"Seven lads got one wicket apiece which is a rarity. Unfortunately Zain Ul Hassan when he was batting on the third morning got a whack on his toe so he probably wasn't at his best when he was bowling.

"Maybe if Zain had been fully fit, we might have got a few more overs out of him and might have had a better chance.

"But really pleased with the contributions the boys made over the three days."
