Academy Win Two Of Their Three Matches At Shrewsbury School

Academy Win Two Of Their Three Matches At Shrewsbury School

Worcestershire CCC Academy triumphed in two of the of their three 50 over matches when in action at Shrewsbury School.

In the first game the Academy lost by 169 runs against Millfield School.

Millfield were put into bat and scored 302-9 off their 50 overs, with Tom Lace (107) and Tom Moores (78), son of England head coach Peter, their top-scorers.

Dillon Pennington returned 5-50 and Liam Smith 3-32 for the Academy who, in reply, were all out for 134 off 38 overs with Josh Dell top-scoring with 34.

In the second game against Shrewsbury School, the hosts won the toss and chose to bat but, after being on 146-3 in the 42nd over, they collapsed to 186-9 off their 50 overs.

This was mainly due to the efforts of Lee Tyrrell who took 5-30 off his 10 overs.

Then 14-year-old Jack Haynes (87 not out), Ben Tegg (46) and Dell (35 not out) took the Academy to their target of 187 in 43.2 overs as they comfortably won by nine wickets.

In the third and final match against Worksop College, the Academy were put into bat and they were all out for 217 off their 50 overs, with Liam Smith making 83.

Worksop were reduced to 106-8 thanks to Patrick Brown (3-36) and Tyrrell (2-33).

An unbeaten ninth-wicket stand of 83, with Liam Patterson-White not out on 87, might have given Worksop a chance of winning until the rain intervened with three overs to go.

Worksop were then on 189-8, and under the Duckworth-Lewis method, the Academy won by 12 runs.
