Ajmal Double Strike As Worcs Fight All The Way Before Suffering Five Wicket Loss

Saeed Ajmal enjoyed a double success with the ball before Worcestershire went down by five wickets in a hard fought LV = County Championship clash with Nottinghamshire at New Road.

The visitors were made to battle all the way for the remaining 75 runs required for victory after they resumed on 157-3 on the final day.

Worcestershire ended with five points from the game, three for bowling and two for batting in their battle to stay in Division One.

Play started virtually on time after morning showers but only three balls were possible from Jack Shantry before the players left the field after another downpour.

They eventually resumed at 12.15 and Taylor and Wessels safely negotiated 12 overs in adding 31 overs as Notts reached 188-3 at lunch.

Ajmal came into the attack after the interval and struck in his second over when Taylor (66) went down the wicket and sliced a catch to stand-in skipper Alex Gidman at extra cover.

Taylor's stand with Wessels was worth 157 in 52 overs – a new fourth wicket record for Nottinghamshire in matches against Worcestershire.

Ajmal broke through again when Wessels (88) holed out to Jack Shantry at mid off to leave Nottinghamshire on 200-5.

It took Ajmal's Championship wicket tally for the campaign to 16 in his sixth match of his third spell at New Road.

Skipper Chris Read and Samit Patel saw Notts through to their third win in four Championship games.
