Alan Butcher Is Next Guest Speaker Of Cricket Society

Alan Butcher is part of a family steeped in cricket and he will be the next guest speaker of the Worcestershire Cricket Society in The View on Tuesday, December 12 (7.30pm start).

His brothers, Ian and Martin, both played first class cricket and his sons, Mark and Gary, also went down the same path.

Ian opened for Leicestershire and Gloucestershire and Martin made one appearance for Surrey.

Mark was the most successful international-wise, scoring 4,288 Test runs with eight Test centuries at an average of 34.58 and playing for Surrey between 1992 and 2009 before becoming a successful TV pundit.

Gary started his career with Glamorgan and then played alongside Mark at The Oval.

Alan played for Surrey (1972-1986) and then Glamorgan (1987-1992) and accumulated 22,667 first class runs at 36.32 with 46 tons and 9,169 List A runs at 31.43.

He had spells coaching Essex and Surrey, for whom he made a brief playing comeback in 1998 at the age of 44, and then the Zimbabwe national team.

Non Society members can attend for an admission fee of £3 per winter evening.
