ALEX GIDMAN REACTION TO RAPIDS VERSUS WARWICKSHIRE

first team coach alex gidman gave his reaction after worcestershire rapids went down to warwickshire in the royal london one-day cup at New Road today.

wayne parnell and tom fell both hit half centuries as the rapids fell just short of their 316 target after sam hain scored an unbeaten century.

gidman said: “what are my thoughts? probably a little of disappointment. the lads will probably feel they’ve just missed out on an opportunity to get another win.

“credit to sam hain in particular. that really was a very good knock and i thought they managed to wrestle back momentum really well after the start we had to our innings.

“i’m all for trying to learn how we can get better and trying to recognise how we can get better but sometimes you’ve got to accept that someone, or a team, has played extremely well.

“that innings by hain got them to what, in our opinion, was an over-par score.

“credit to jeetan patel (warwickshire skipper) and the way he captained there and for a 10 over spell i thought he led his team superbly well, took a bit of a risk, and we didn’t quite have the skill set today to get through and get over the line.

“the batting went a bit wrong from 86-0? it did and it’s been a little bit of a theme of our batting so far this season in this competition.

“we will have a chat about how we can address those pressure moments in the game. we didn’t quite do it well enough today.

“we will talk about it, try and learn from it and come back stronger in the next fixture.

“was it shot selection, game management or playing the situation? probably a bit of all to be honest. the players play for themselves, they try and learn. i’m not there to instruct them how to play. i’m not one of those coaches.

“they are talking in all the right language. i know as a batting group they are trying to do the right thing which is a great start.

“they are being very honest about what we are doing well and what we are not quite doing so well so i’m really confident in all of them that we will come back on wednesday with a more rounded batting performance (against nottinghamshire).”
