ALL-ROUNDER PARNELL PREPARING TO FACE FORMER COUNTY

ALL-ROUNDER PARNELL PREPARING TO FACE FORMER COUNTY

In-form Worcestershire all-rounder Wayne Parnell has happy memories of his spell at Sussex as he prepares for next week’s Specsavers County Championship match between the two counties at Kidderminster beginning on Tuesday.

The South African played for Sussex during the second half of the 2011 season as a 21-year-old – the second of his four counties.

He is acquainted with several of their players from either back home or from competing in various leagues around the world but all his focus is on Worcestershire.

Parnell said: “I played there in 2011. They’ve been going really well and it’s about starting again next week.

“Every single game is an opportunity to start fresh and do something special.

“We will hopefully hit some better weather – and train and hit them hard on Monday.

“When I played for Sussex, I was a lot younger and probably not as smart a cricketer as I am now but it was a really nice county to play for and a nice place to live as well

“I was there for about three months, really enjoyed it and a good group of lads as well.

“I also have played with a few of the guys who are currently playing and, even in the different leagues over the past couple of months like Laurie Evans and then with and against Stiaan van Zyl back home and David Wiese.

“Hopefully we won’t be too friendly come next week!”
