Worcestershire assistant coach Matt Mason was delighted with the efforts of the side with ball and then bat on the second day of the LV = County Championship match with Middlesex at Uxbridge.
Mason was pleased with the way Worcestershire disposed quickly of the three remaining Middlesex wickets, all falling to Joe Leach in the space of 11 balls, as they were bowled out for 309.
Then Moeen Ali (54) and Tom Fell (75 not out) and Alex Gidman (30 not out) – in an unbroken stand of 83 – steered Worcestershire to 195-3 off 71 overs by the close.
Mason told BBC Hereford-Worcester's Dave Bradley: "We are really happy with the way the day finished. The day started well by wrapping up their innings very quickly. It is something we talked about as a bowling group, trying to get it done as fast as we can.
"We haven't always done that this year, it's been an area at times that has caused us problems so it was nice to do that.
"They bat all way down and Murts (Tim Murtagh) coming in at number eleven, he can hold a bat, that's for sure.
"So it was a great effort by the boys to be so clinical. Joe Leach was rewarded again for his mighty efforts, and he's been great all year, as have Jack Shantry and Charlie Morris.
"For the most part they've been the three seam attack and they've carried on manfully. They are all ticking up about the 300 over mark now but they are going strong and long may it continue."
Mason added: I thought we applied ourselves really well with the bat. It was tricky with the new ball. It seemed to bounce and carry. I thought they bowled really well, particularly their opening pair, so to finish the day as we have, we're really happy with that.
"Moeen played terrifically well and that partnership with Felly and Giddo was class. I'm really pleased for Giddo to get some runs and contribute the way he has and Fell showed his class and is a fine young player.
"He had great intent to score out there and was really positive and that's why we are in the position we are now."
As regards the pitch, Mason said: "We thought it looked a bit quicker today. Whether that is the nature of their bowlers or whatever, it just looked like it did a little bit more at a livelier pitch.
"Traditionally it does slow up and spin a little bit so that's why we are determined to get in front of the game a little bit just in case that happens.
"There will be a new ball in nine overs, that will be a new challenge, so we will get together in the morning and talk about our plans to cope with that and it's a big day ahead, that's for sure."
