Barnard Hits Half Century As Seconds Lose Trophy Encounter

Worcestershire Seconds were beaten by 47 runs in a Second Eleven Trophy encounter with Lancashire Seconds at Ombersley.

Lancashire elected to bat after winning the toss and totalled 286-7 in their 50 overs.

Opener Luis Reece scored an unbeaten 139 for the visitors and his 127 ball knock contained three sixes and 14 fours.

He shared in a second wicket stand of 99 with Karl Brown (50)

The Worcestershire bowlers worked their way through the Lancashire innings and reduced them to 193-7 before Reece, whp scored 43 off the last 10 balls he faced, and Stephen Parry (32 not out) added an unbroken 93 in 11 overs.

Graeme Cessford picked up three wickets and there were two for Ross Whiteley and one apiece for George Rhodes and Nick Harrison who, along with Graeme Whiles, was Worcestershire's most economical bowler in conceding just over four runs an over.

England Under-19 wicket-keeper Joe Clarke (44)  and Whiteley (36) added 83 in 15 overs for the third wicket and the game was well poised at 128-2 off 25 overs.

But then Clarke and Whiteley both fell in quick succession to spinner Stephen Parry.

Another England Under-19 player in batsman Ed Barnard hit 58 at a run a ball with five fours after going to the wicket at 134-5.

But Worcestershire were dismissed for 239 in the 47th over with opening bowler Oliver Newby and Jordan Clark polishing off the innings for Lancashire.
