Ed Barnard says Worcestershire Rapids can be "proud" of their NatWest T20 Blast campaign despite the disappointment of losing at the quarter-final stage to Hampshire yesterday evening.
The Rapids lost by 17 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method after bad light curtailed their reply to Hampshire's 196-4 after 8.1 overs just as Ross Whiteley was starting to flex his muscles with two massive sixes off Liam Dawson.
But Barnard says there are plenty of plus points from a season in which the Rapids finished in the top two of the North Group to gain a first ever home quarter-final and won six successive away matches.
Barnard, a regular member of the side throughout the competition, said: "To go out that way after the camaign we've had is really disappointing for everyone especially as we were still in the game at that point with Ross Whiteley just getting going and the captain (Daryl Mitchell) still in there.
"Very disappointing but we can still be proud of the campaign we've had and the way the lads have all played.
"James Vince played a great innings but we'd have backed ourselves. It is just one of those things at the end of the day and sometimes luck just goes against you."
The Rapids now entertain Leicestershire on Monday and visit Derbyshire on Tuesday in the Royal London One-Day Cup before resuming their LV = County Championship survival scrap against Somerset at Taunton on Friday.
Barnard said: "Hopefully we can get a couple of good wins in the 50 over matches and give us a bit of momentum to go into the four-day stuff.
"We will try to get a couple of wins on Monday and Tuesday but all our focus can go onto red ball cricket now and to try and stay up."
