Ed Barnard’s all-round contribution to Worcestershire’s promotion from Division Two of the Specsavers County Championship is illustrated in the final averages for the 2017 campaign.

The 21-year-old finished as joint second highes wicket-taker with 47 and also weighed in with 580 runs at an average of 36.25 batting predominantly at number seven.

His achievements were recognised by the Supporters’ Association whose members voted the former England Under-19 international as Player Of The Year.

Opener Daryl Mitchell’s tally of seven centuries was THREE more than anyone else in Division Two.

He ended on 1266 runs – a figure only bettered by Sussex’s Luke Wells.

Mitchell also proved to be a reliable pair of hands at second slip and his tally of 21 catches was second to Durham’s Paul Collingwood (23).

Joe Leach’s haul of 69 wickets was the best in Division Two and contained four five wicket hauls – a superb effort by the captain.

Keeper Ben Cox’s total of 43 victims was second only to Nottinghamshire’s retiring glovesman Chris Read (53).

Cox twice registered six dismissals in a game – versus Glamorgan at the SWALEC Stadium and against Derbyshire at the 3aaa County Ground.
