Battle Of Australian Left Handers At Taunton

Battle Of Australian Left Handers At Taunton

it will be the battle of the australian left handers when worcestershire take on somerset in the specsavers county championship division one clash at the cooper associates county ground in taunton on friday.

travis head gave an early indication of his class when making 45 not out for worcestershire in the opening match of the season against hampshire at the ageas bowl.

the south australian will be up against somerset’s new signing in test opener and queensland batsman matt renshaw who has replaced cameron bancroft as somerset’s 2017 overseas player.

head, 24, and renshaw, 22, last came up against each other at the end of february in a sheffield shield encounter.

yorkshire born renshaw scored 112 in the first innings and head replied with 85 when south australia batted for a second time.

the pair have so far had contrasting international careers with head having played 34 odis and 10 t20is whilst still striving for a test breakthrough.

in contrast renshaw’s appearances to date for australia have all been in test cricket and he made his 11th and most recent appearance against south africa in johannesburg earlier this month.

head is available for all cricket at New Road up to and including september 15 apart from a spell in june when australia are playing an odi series in england.

renshaw will be available to play until june 30 and will then return to somerset on august 19 for the rest of the season.
