BEN SIGNS OFF WITH LENGTHY BOWL BEFORE HEADING BACK TO NEW ROAD

Ben Twohig signed off from his latest spell with Southern Districts by bowling his lengthiest stint of the winter on day one of the South Australia Cricket Association Premier Cricket first grade match against Port Adelaide.

The Worcestershire CCC spinner sent down a total of 29 overs, eight of which were maidens, in four different spells and finished with 1-94 on a flat pitch.

It was an encouraging sign ahead of Twohig rejoining his New Road team-mates after he had bowled 21 overs in the first innings of the previous first grade encounter with Sturt.

On a flat pitch offering little help to bowlers, he showed plenty of control and was rewarded with a wicket in his penultimate over of the day.

Twohig had also helped bring about the first breakthrough when he held onto a chance offered by opener Liam Toovey at second slip off a top edge.

Port Adelaide closed the day on 286-5 from 96 overs.

The game will be concluded next weekend but by then Twohig and County colleague Ben Cox will have flown back home.

Worcestershire CCC batsman Josh Dell made 28 on the second day of Mosman CC’s New South Wales Premier Cricket second grade match with Western Suburbs.

Dell was lbw, second out with the total on 62, as Mosman were bowled out for 237 in 68.2 overs and went down by 80 runs.

*Moeen Ali was dismissed for 10 and bowled one over for 19 runs as Multan Sultans (164-8) went down by eight wickets to Islamabad United (165-2) in a Pakistan Super League fixture in Lahore.
