Big Bash winner Travis Head is set to make his Vitality Blast debut for table-topping Worcestershire Rapids in tomorrow’s home North Group meeting with Northamptonshire Steelbacks (5.30pm start).
Head skippered Adelaide Strikers to the 2018 title Down Under, scoring 85 not out in the semi-final win over Melbourne Renegades and an unbeaten 44 in the final triumph against Hobart Hurricanes on his home ground.
Now he will be looking to show the same sort of form for the Rapids who have won their opening three games against Lancashire Lightning, Birmingham Bears and Derbyshire Falcons.
He returns to Blackfinch New Road after playing for Australia in the ODI Series against England and a Tri-Series in Zimbabwe against the host nation and Pakistan.
Head was one of Australia’s few successes with the bat in the 5-0 defeat against England, scoring three successive half centuries
The left hander hit 51 at Trent Bridge, 63 at Chester-le-Street and 56 at Old Trafford.
He finished as Australia’s second highest scorer behind Shaun Marsh with 194 runs at an average of 38.30.
Head then helped Australia reach the final of the Tri-Series in Zimbabwe before they went down to Pakistan.
Now he is back with the Rapids for the next five Blast matches – filling one of the permitted two overseas player slots alongside Martin Guptill – plus the Specsavers County Championship match with Somerset at Blackfinch New Road beginning on July 22.
Head played in the first five Championship matches of the season and the opening four North Group games in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
