Acting Worcestershire Rapids captain Brett D’Oliveira gave his reaction after the 38 run defeat to Leicestershire Foxes in the Royal London One-Day Cup at the Fischer County Ground.
Ross Whiteley scored his first List A century and there were half centuries for D’Oliveira and Ed Barnard as the Rapids were bowled out for 339 in reply to the Foxes 377-4.
D’Oliveira, the club’s official white ball vice-captain, told BBC Hereford-Worcester’s Graham Hill: “We were probably outplayed in all three disciplines today.
“I just don’t think we were quite good enough.
“It’s a bit of a shame after the game (125 run win) at Lancashire but this is how one-day cricket can pan out and it’s onto the next one.
“Were you not at your best in the field? Absolutely. We just spoke about that. We hold ourselves to high standards and are a very good fielding group.
“Unfortunately today, that didn’t quite happen but it’s not through lack of effort. It’s just one of those days.
“A dream start with two early wickets? Exactly. You are always looking to take wickets at the top and Charlie (Morris) managed to do that.
“But unfortunately they managed to get in and played really well, to be fair to them.
“That chase always going to be difficult? Chasing that kind of score, you hope to get off to a good start and it didn’t quite happen.
“I think we’ve got to look at the positives and Ross Whiteley played an absolute phenomenal knock today and credit to him.
“He is a special player who can do all three disciplines really well.
“Nice for yourself to spend time in the middle? It’s always nice to get a few runs but we didn’t get that win which is crucial but we will look forward to Wednesday.
“Something we hold ourselves to is that never give up attitude and I hope we showed that today even though we were up against it and came up short.
“We were about 40 runs short at the end. We weren’t far off but we didn’t do all three disciplines well enough. It was one of those days.”
