Brett D'Oliveira has revealed his joy at scoring his maiden Specsavers County Championship hundred for Worcestershire in the home clash with Essex.
But said the 24-year-old insisted: "It will mean nothing if we get nothing out of this game" after Worcestershire closed day three on 226-5 in reply to Essex's 451-9 declared.
D'Oliveira hit a career best 128 as he followed in the footsteps of grandfather Basil and father Damian in reaching the landmark.
He struck 18 boundaries in his 220 ball innings.
Brett D'Oliveira said: "It is absolutely amazing to get the first Championship century and hopefully keep up the good form but it means nothing if we get nothing out of this game now so I'm looking forward until tomorrow.
"It was nice with the new ball because the ball came onto the bat easier but as it got older it was tough to score. I'd like to think I cashed in on the bad balls.
"You are always nervous when you get into the 90s but I just kept my head down and got through it.
"My first thought after reaching 100 was 'yes I've done it' and then obviously my dad (Damian) is never too far away from my thoughts.
"It was great to get there and to see the boys on the balcony and their support. It was good to bat with Mitch (Daryl Mitchell) and he got me through some tough times out there."
Worcestershire closed on 226-5 in reply to Essex's 451-9 declared and D'Oliveira believes tomorrow morning's session will be a key time.
He said: "It has become really tough to score and the pitch is getting slower and lower so I think you've got to play very straight so the next session in the morning is going to be really tough.
"We've got to get through that without hopefully losing too many wickets and see where we are. There is a new ball due and maybe that might mean a few more runs hopefully."
