Steve Rhodes believes Saeed Ajmal's strong will and steely determination will have been to the fore in his battle to successfully remodel his bowling action.
Worcestershire Director of Cricket Rhodes has remained supportive of Ajmal since his ban from international cricket in September after his action was reported the previous month.
Rhodes has confirmed he wants to re-sign the Pakistan spin star for next season and talks have taken place with the player and his representatives.
But D-Day will be the official ICC biomechanics test that Ajmal is scheduled to undertake in Chennai on Saturday (January 24).
Rhodes said: "When you fail a test like that (in September) and are out on a limb, you sort of pick up a lot of enemies and not a lot of friends.
"I thought the human thing to do was to try and back him.
"The reason I did that is because I know how determined and strong Saeed is as a bloke and, if anyone is going to put it right, then he is going to try his hardest to put it right.
"Because I know Saeed like that, I know he does have a chance of getting it right and I know how hard he has worked.
"I wanted him to think he had got an ally, a friend, and also a club that backed him and stuck by him and hopefully he'll pass (the ICC test) and bear us some fruit with some wickets next season."
Ajmal, who is due to travel to India today, will have the support of two people who have played a large part in him remodelling his bowling action in Chennai.
The Pakistan spinner, who took 63 wickets in nine LV = County Championship matches for Worcestershire last season, will be accompanied by Saqlain Mushtaq and Dr. Paul Hurrion.
He confirmed: “Saqlain Mushtaq and Dr. Paul Hurrion will join me during my tests.
"Saqlain looked after my bowling action and Dr. Paul Hurrion helped me with his bio mechanics expertise in improving my bowling action."
Ajmal has been omitted from Pakistan's World Cup squad but is looking beyond that tournament.
He said. "Yes, I will be disappointed on missing the World Cup, but there is much cricket after the World Cup and that will be the consolation."
