Worcestershire Rapids NatWest T20 Blast player Colin Munro has been called into New Zealand's ODI squad for the remainder of the current series with England.
But the county's Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes is hoping New Zealand Cricket will release Munro to play in this week's T20 Blast matches with Lancashire on Thursday and Derbyshire on Friday if he is not required to play by the Black Caps.
The tourists are due to play at Trent Bridge on Wednesday and the Emirates ICG, Durham on Saturday after taking a 2-1 lead in the series.
Left-hander Munro has been drafted in for the remaining games of the best of five series as a replacement for injured all-rounder Corey Anderson.
All-rounder Anderson injured his back in the first Test against England and has returned home for further assessment.
Rhodes said: "Colin has been called up as cover. We will wait and see what is happening.
"New Zealand Cricket said if he is not required, then they will look into releasing him to play for us so we will just have to wait and see.
"He is a contracted player to New Zealand and they take preference quite rightly.
"New Zealand have got their next game on Wednesday at Trent Bridge. If he is not playing in that, I would imagine they would release him to play on Thursday but that's just my guess.
"If he might be involved on Saturday up at Durham, it might be a case of they say he can play on Friday night as well for us but we'll just have to wait and see."
Munro, who is in his second spell at New Road, has played one Test, seven ODIs and 14 T20 internationals.
The 28-year-old has enjoyed a prolific winter in red ball and 50 over cricket for Auckland in the Plunket Shield and Ford Trophy.
A tweet from the Black Caps' official account reads: "Well done to @manuz05 [Munro] who has joined the @BLACKCAPS squad in place of the injured Corey Anderson."
Munro last represented the Black Caps in the 2014 World Twenty20, while his last ODI appearance came in November 2013.
