All-rounder Brett D'Oliveira was ruled out of today's Specsavers County Championship clash against Kent at Canterbury with a dislocated finger.
But Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes is hopeful the County's leading run-scorer in the Championship this summer wil be back fit sooner rather than later for the next four-day clash with Glamorgan at New Road beginning on August 13.
D'Oliveira sustained the injury when fielding a fierce drive from Nottinghamshire batsman Dan Christian off his own bowling in Monday evening's Royal London One-Day Cup match at Trent Bridge.
He left the field and was unable to bowl his full quota of overs with skipper Daryl Mitchell completing the over.
Rhodes said: "Dolly has had quite a bad dislocation but we are hopeful he will be back playing and fit for the Glamorgan game."
D'Oliveira has scored 690 Championship runs this summer – his first full season in the opening role and had been an ever present in the competition until now.
He earned an England Lions call-up for the recent Tri-Series with Pakistan 'A' and Sri Lanka 'A'.
George Rhodes took over the role of main spinner from D'Oliveira and replaced him in the opening batsman berth alongside skipper Daryl Mitchell after Worcestershire were put in.
Steve Rhodes confirmed: "We will open with George – which is the role he has been doing with the second team – and he will be the main spinner.
"It will be a good test for him and an opportunity. He is used to the new ball, albeit second team bowlers, but everyone wants a crack.
"But doing this way means we have some continuity with the other batting positions."
