Bumpy Names 12 Strong Squad As Worcs Return To Battle For Division One Spot

Worcestershire Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes has named a 12 strong squad for the return to Specsavers County Championship action against Kent at Canterbury tomorrow (12 noon start).

Rhodes has selected the players in action in the win over Northamptonshire three weeks ago – minus the now departed Matt Henry plus pacemen Kyle Abbott and Charlie Morris.

Abbott is back to fitness after his foot problem and played in the excellent double Royal London One-Day Cup triumph over Lancashire and Nottinghamshire which secured a quarter-final spot.

Morris has also showed encouraging signs after his recent return to first team action following a challenging opening half of the season.

Worcestershire have all to play for in the final third of the campaign in the quest to secure the one promotion spot up for grabs.

They currently lie in second spot, just seven points behind leaders Essex.

Rhodes said: "There is all to play for and we would have taken being in this situation when we started back in April.

"It's all about being in the shake-up at the business end and, whether we manage it or we don't manage it, we will be giving it a real big effort and we have certainly given ourselves a chance."

Worcestershire will have played eight days out of nine – and spent the other travelling to Canterbury – by the end of the fixture with Kent.

Rhodes said: "When you are playing back to back cricket, in all honesty it is quite hard graft and hard physically and mentally but you don't get half as tired when you are winning.

"If you are in the middle of your heavy load and winning, it doesn't take it out of the body as much as losing."
