Steve Rhodes admitted Worcestershire paid the price for their first innings batting display after the five wicket defeat to Glamorgan in the Specsavers County Championship clash at New Road.
Rhodes said the County were playing catch-up cricket after collapsing on the first morning.
They recovered sufficiently to set Glamorgan a 277 target but nightwatchman Owen Morgan's unbeaten century saw the visitors to victory.
Director of Cricket Rhodes told BBC Hereford-Worcester's Dave Bradley: "The first-innings batting cost us at 37-5. We tried to play catch-up cricket and we fought back really hard but we need to start the match better.
"It was 50-50 going into the final day but the wicket wasn't deteriorating, it got a bit flatter and the foot-holes didn't react badly for the batsmen.
“But let’s take our hat off to the lad (Morgan) who got the hundred.
"He was dropped early but apart from that, I thought he applied himself really well and it was a match-winning innings. He was determined to bat through.
"He deserved to be on the winning side – though Joe Leach was unlucky to be on the losing side."
